In 1986, my grandmother, Lucille, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and was told she would never walk again. Little was known about this debilitating disease at the time and when I came home from school the following spring to find my grandmother not only walking but cooking in the kitchen her famous fried chicken and a plate of freshly baked tea cakes on the counter. That was the absolute beginning of my intrigue and excitement with the kitchen as my grandmother allowed that space to not only be our space to have our time, but a space that became my laboratory.
In 2015, Lucille & Grace officially began as a custom cake and dessert business. I would work in this business part-time or as part of my full-time career. Then in 2021, we moved to Texas with the intention of me pursuing it full-time. However, I had an infant in tow and knew that the old ways would not work with my new life in Texas and once I registered Lucille & Grace in Texas, everything changed, we rebranded and began to focus on portable and convenient desserts. We started with cupcakes and then I reluctantly tried cake jars and the rest as they say is history. Today we make gourmet cake jars and cookies as small as the tip of your finger and as big as the palm of your hand.
